About Us

ALSS has been providing scanning services throughout Australia for over 25 years. Our clients include commercial sheep and wool producers, prime lamb producers, Stud Breeders, Artificial Inseminators and Embryo Transfer practitioners, beef cattle producers, veterinarians, Commercial R & D Companies, State and Federal government authorities such as CSIRO, State Departments of Agriculture, Universities and Agricultural Colleges.

Doug Fowler

Our principal, Dr Doug Fowler graduated from the University of New South Wales then specialised on reproduction in sheep and cattle and on management systems for improving the reproductive efficiency in sheep and cattle. This part of his career was completed at NSW Agriculture Trangie, CSIRO Prospect, CSIRO Chiswick and NSW Agriculture Glen Innes.

With the support of industry funds, Doug led the team which developed the systems for scanning sheep and cattle with imaging ultrasound. This work was completed in the New England region of NSW and elsewhere in Australia before anywhere else in the world. Dr Doug has trained scanning contractors in Australia, New Zealand and the UK and has trained our two main operatives, George Muckenschnabel and Robert Ferris.

GeorgeM

George Muckenschnabel has been involved with ALSS for over 15 years. George has been fully trained by Doug and has worked scanning sheep and cattle in all of the major sheep and cattle production regions.

George scans cattle from December to March and sheep from May to August. From August to November, George completes all the R & M and improvements needed to the scanning equipment and the sheep handlers. George carries his own workers compensation cover and is fully familiar with his WHS requirements.

Robert Ferris

Robert Ferris lives in Glen Innes and has been working with ALSS for 10 years. Robert has been fully trained by Doug and has worked scanning sheep and cattle in all of the major sheep and cattle production regions.

Robert scans cattle from December to March and sheep from May to August. From August to November, Robert heads up a shearing team throughout the New England woolsheds. Robert carries his own workers compensation cover and is fully familiar with his WHS requirements.

George and Robert scan over 50 thousand sheep and cattle every year and have gained a deep understanding of what is needed to care for a client's animals. The care of a client's livestock is a major concern and one which is taken very seriously.
